Hoffenheim appoint Bayern reserves coach Hoennes as new manager

German club 1899 Hoffenheim have appointed Sebastian Hoeness as their new manager after he managed to win the 3.Bundesliga title with Bayern Munich‘s reserve team. The 38-year-old has signed a contract until the summer of 2023, Hoffenheim announced in a statement on Monday.

The son of former Germany international Dieter and nephew of former Bayern president Uli Hoeness, has never played in the Bundesliga but had a short spell with Hoffenheim in 2006/2007. “We have been in contact with Sebastian Hoeness for some time because we were impressed with his work and because his attitude towards football fits perfectly with our philosophy and strategy at TSG,” said Hoffenheim sports director Alexander Rosen.

Hoffenheim, who saw coach Alfred Schreuder leaving in June, finished in sixth place last season and will compete in the Europa League next term. “The work at Hoffenheim is a big challenge which I am looking forward to,” Hoeness said. “The basic philosophy is identical with my idea of football: attacking, courageous, flexible and always active.”
