Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Sergio Aguero will miss the second leg of the round of 16 in the Champions League against Real Madrid. The Argentinian is currently recovering from a small operation on his knee but will not be fit in time to face the Spanish giants on August 7 at the Etihad Stadium.
Earlier on Guardiola told reporters he hoped Aguero would be fit on time to face Madrid. But a week later he was asked about the progress of Aguero and if he will be part of his match squad, Guardiola said: “No, I think it will not be possible for the timing.” Aguero has 23 goals from 32 appearances this season.
With Aguero out it seems likely that Gabriel Jesus will the man leading Man City’s attack against Real Madrid. The Brazilian already scored a goal against the Spanish giants as the forward scored the important equaliser at the Bernabeu earlier this year, helping his side in their 2-1 win.
