Real Madrid have confirmed that Mariano Diaz has tested positive on corona. The Brazilian and the rest of the squad were tested upon arrival back at Madrid’s training ground ahead of their Champions League clash with Manchester City on August 7. Mariano has gone into isolation and will miss the match at the Etihad.
The Spanish club announced via a statement: “After the Covid-19 tests carried out individually on our first-team yesterday by the Real Madrid Medical Services, our player Mariano has given a positive result. The player is in perfect health and complying with the sanitary isolation protocol at home.”
Real Madrid will be preparing for the Man City clash without Mariano as the Spanish giants face a stiff challenge after City won the first match 1-2 at the Santiago Bernabeu. Isco managed to open the score but goals from Gabriel Jesus and Kevin de Bruyne gave City an important lead. Madrid will also miss captain Sergio Ramos who was sent off the field with a red card.
On Tuesday Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola confirmed that he will be without his star striker Sergio Aguero. The Argentinian is currently recovering from a knee operation following an injury he suffered in City’s first match after the return of football in June. The winner of the match between Real and City will face either Juventus or Olympique Lyon. The first match ended in a 1-0 victory for Lyon.
