Real Madrid have been monitoring the progress of Sevilla centre-back Jules Kounde. The freshly crowned LaLiga champions are looking to sign a new central defender as Sergio Ramos turns 35 next year and Eder Militao not impressing during his first full season at the club.
A report from ESPN claims that Zinezine Zidane has been impressed with the French U21 defender after an impressive first season for Sevilla. The 21-year-old joined the Andalusian club in a deal worth €27.5m from Ligue 1 club Bordeaux last summer and he has claimed a regular spot in the first team alongside Diego Carlos.
Real Madrid will not be completing big money signings this summer, due to the financial restrictions as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. It seems likely that they will be having difficulties signing Kounde as he as a long-term contract with the club and Premier League champions Liverpool have shown interest to sign Carlos.
If the Reds do make an offer for the Spanish central defender, Sevilla will be very reluctant to let Kounde leave for Real Madrid. The report from ESPN claims that Madrid could be ready to offer €35m for Kounde, but with a contract until the summer of 2024, Sevilla could be demanding €20m to €25m more for Kounde.
