Olympique Marseille coach Andre Villas-Boas says that Jose Mourinho has had a great influence on his career. The 42-year-old was part of Jose Mourinho’s staff at Chelsea before he went on his own way to coach FC Porto, Chelsea, Zenit St. Petersburg and Chinese giants Shanghai SIPG.
Speaking to L’Equipe, Villas-Boas hailed Mourinho: “The ability of Portuguese coaches to adapt to different environments has allowed us to impose ourselves. We also used our wisdom, our study of the game, and our ability to lead a team and communicate.” Villas-Boas is currently the coach of Olympique Marseille and has led his team back into the Champions League by finishing second this season.
The coach sees Mourinho and Portuguese legend Artur Jorge as the ‘great ambassadors’ of his country. “It is certain that Artur Jorge and José Mourinho were the first great ambassadors of Portuguese coaches abroad. This has allowed us to open doors in any corner of the world.” Jorge had spells with Paris Saint-Germain, CSKA Moscow and Dutch club Vitesse.
