Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has reporteldy requested his board to push through the transfer of FC Barcelona‘s Philippe Coutinho. The Brazilian midfielder is currently on loan at Bayern Munich and is set to return to Spain once the season has ended. While he holds no future at the Nou Camp, Barcelona are yet to decide what they want to do with Coutinho.
Le10Sport claims that Arteta is a big admirer of the former Liverpool star and has urged his board to make a move. It is reported that Arteta is excited by the prospect to work with a player of Coutinho’s caliber as the Spaniard sees Coutinho as an ideal player for his fast attacking playing style.
There is one major problem though and that is Barcelona’s possible demands. Signing Coutinho on a permanent transfer could cost Arsenal at least €80m, which is a figure Arsenal can’t afford. The other option could be a player swap with Matteo Guendouzi, though Barcelona is having second thoughts on the French midfielder’s attitude.
The third option is sending Coutinho out on loan for a second and maybe even a third season. That would fit Arsenal the best but it will all depend on Barcelona’s plans with Coutinho. The Catalans want to generate funds to sign Lautaro Martinez and in the future Neymar and could use the income of a possible Coutinho transfer.
