FC Barcelona have supposedly offered Samuel Umtiti to Bayern Munich in a bid for David Alaba, reports Mundo Deportivo. The Catalan giants are keen on signing a left-footed defender as Clement Lenglet has not impressed for the club since joining from Sevilla. And with Alaba’s contract running down, Bayern could be open to the proposal of Barcelona.
If Barcelona push through the proposed player swap deal it would mean they have offered out Umtiti to Bayern for a second year in a row. Last year they already had interest in Alaba and then reportedly offered a player plush cash deal for the Austrian international. Bayern then turned down the offer as they considered Alaba to be a key player.
While the defender has been a key player for Bayern over the past seasons, he collected even more praise form the Germans after he was forced to play as a central defender next to Jerome Boateng. Chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge even compared Alaba with Germany and Bayern legend Franz Beckenbauer in terms of playing style.
But despite the praises from his chairman Alaba could be on his way out of the exit at the Allianz Arena this summer. He is in talks with Bayern to extend his contract beyond 2021 but rumours claim that the talks are in a stalemate as Alaba is demanding around €20m-a-year, which is on the same level as Robert Lewandowski, Thomas Muller and Manuel Neuer.
If Bayern and Alaba fail to reach an agreement on a new contract, Barcelona would be one of the first clubs on the German’s doorsteps and this time they have brought Umtiti with them once again. The 26-year-old France defender will be allowed to leave Barcelona this summer due to his injury proneness.
