City defender Garcia wants Guardiola to commit future to Citizens

Manchester City defender Eric Garcia is prepared to sign a new deal at the Etihad amid interest from his boyhood club FC Barcelona. The Spanish defender is keen on remaining at the Premier League giants, but only if Pep Guardiola does the same. The City boss’s contract will run out next season and talks about a new deal have not yet started.

Garcia has earned the interest of Barcelona this season. The 19-year-old has impressed for the Citizens making 6 appearances in their final 7 games of the season. While Garcia appears to have claimed a position next to Aymeric Laporte, his future at the club remains in doubt. His contract will run out in 2021 and Barcelona hope that he will reject signing a new contract at City and then return to his former club.

Mundo Deportivo no claims that Garcia wants Guardiola to commit his future to City before he will do the same. The young centre-back fears he will lose his position if the Spanish manager decides to call it a day after the 2020/2021 season. And the fears from Garcia are shared by many others as Guardiola recently rejected to look beyond the expiration date of his current contract.

Also, the 49-year-old Guardiola has never worked at a club longer than four seasons, making his stay at Manchester City very unique. He coached FC Barcelona four seasons, while he left Bayern Munich after three seasons. Guardiola has also never hidden his desire to manage in the Serie A while he also wants to manage a national team at a World Cup.
