Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has issued Manchester City a warning ahead of their second-leg of their round of 16 tie in the Champions League. City holds a 2-1 lead after they grabbed a surprising but deserved win at the Santiago Bernabeu. The two sides will meet next week and Real Madrid have started preparing for the match.
“The team is doing well,” Benzema said after his first days of training following a short holiday. “Now we have time to work. We want to continue our form from the league and beating City is very important.” The winner of the tie will meet the winner of the match between Olympique Lyon and Juventus.
Upon his return to training this week Benzema received Mahou’s Jugador Cinco Estrellas award for Real Madrid’s player of the season in LaLiga Santander. “I’m proud to have won this trophy because it comes from the fans and that’s very important,” Benzema added. “I’m very happy and this gives me more hunger to do things on the pitch. [Winning the league title] was special and difficult too, but we did a great job.”
