Chelsea tried to sign Aubameyang in January but were shocked by wage demands

Chelsea had the chance to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang during the 2020 Janaury transfer window. The Gabon international was offered to the Blues by his entourage, the Daily Mail reports. Chelsea, however, were left shocked after they learned Aubameyang’s wage demands and decided not to push through an offer for the Arsenal striker.

The report claims that Aubameyang tried to leave the Emirates in January and that he had been offered to Chelsea, who were in the market to land a new forward at the start of this year. The club then decided to reject Aubameyang after the forward demanded a wage that would have exceeded €15m-a-year. Eden Hazard still is Chelsea’s highest paid player ever with a yearly salary of €12m.

Arsenal currently pays Aubameyang a similar salary that Chelsea paid Hazard before he moved to Real Madrid last summer. The striker is currently in talks with the Gunners on a new deal but it’s believed that the the forward and club are still miles apart with an agreement still far away. The striker’s contract will expire next summer and Arsenal will consider a sale if they fail to extend the contract before the end of August.
