Paris Saint-Germain win last ever Coupe de la Ligue after penalties

Paris Saint-Germain have won the last ever Coupe de la Ligue on Friday by beating Olympique Lyon on penalties (6-5). The match ended in a goalless 0-0 draw and needed penalties to decide who would claim the trophy. Bertrand Traore missed the only spotkick of the series as PSG collect their second trophy in a week.

Without Kylian Mbappe, PSG played in a 4-3-3 formation with Angel di Maria, Neymar and Mauro Icardi up front. The Parisians created the first big chance of the game but failed to convert. In the first half neither team was able to create much with a drab 0-0 as the score at half-time.

In the second half chances remained very slim. Maxwel Cornet (Lyon) and Neymar (PSG) created a chance but no goals were scored. The match needed overtime and neither team was happy about that. Lyon will face Juventus next week in the Champions League, PSG will face Atalanta several days later in the quarter finals.

In extra time neither team impressed as the many substitutions disrupted the flow of the game. In the penalty series that followed both teams managed to score their five penalties, with a perfect 5-5 score after ten penalties. The first shoot-out spotkick was then missed by Bertrand Traore before Leandro Paredes scored the winning penalty.
