Lazio striker Ciro Immobile will be crowned the winner of the 2020 Golden Shoe after the weekend. The Italian has scored 35 goals in the Serie A this season and had only Cristiano Ronaldo to fear (31 goals). Now that Juventus have confirmed that Ronaldo will sit out their final league game, no-one is left to attack Immobie’s goal scoring record this season.

This means that Immobile can not be caught anymore and has become the top scorer in Euerope. Lazio will play against Napoli on Saturday and it could be possible that Immobile will even add some more goals to his tally. With 35 goals thus far he needs only one goal to match Gonzalo Higuain’s record 36 goals for Napoli in 2016.

With Immobile already taking the crown in Europe, Robert Lewandowski will finish in second. The Polish Bayern Munich striker scored 34 goals this season, completing one of his personal best seasons of his career. Immobile’s Golden Shoe also means the trophy will not be heading towards Barcelona for the fifth consecutive season, with Lionel Messi claiming it for the past three seasons and Luis Suarez winning the boot in 2016.
