Samuel Umtiti is very reluctant to leave FC Barcelona this summer, reports Sport. The French central defender has been aware of the rumours linking him away from the Spanish giants but he is not ready to give up just yet. Umtiti has a deal until the summer of 2023 and the defender is keen on proving he has still worth for the Blaugranas.
Shortly after joining from Olympique Lyon Umtiti managed to claim a first-team spot next to Gerard Pique in Barcelona’s heart of defense. Injury struggles and poor performances lead into Barcelona signing Clement Lenglet. While the former Sevilla defender is not considered to be a leading player, his ability to play over 50 games per season is in his advantage.
Currently Umtiti is recovering from another injury to his left knee, which has been giving him troubles for the past two seasons. The defender has restarted training and could return to the first team if Barcelona manages to continue their journey in the Champions League past Napoli. It is believed that Umtiti is very keen on proving his worth for the club and show Barcelona they should not sell him.
But despite Umtiti’s desire to stay at the Nou Camp, Barcelona are ready to cash in. The report from Sport claims that his most recent knee injury, when the defender went against the club’s medical advice, has been the moment the club has lost all trust. Barcelona want to replace Umtiti with Manchester City’s Eric Garcia.
