Varane expects much from Real against City: ‘We have a lot of experience’

Raphael Varane is confident Real Madrid will beat Manchester City in their round of 16 second leg in the Champions League next week. The Spanish giants surprisingly lost the first game at the Santiago Bernabeu (2-1) in February and will need to score at least two goals to progress. Varane is confident his side is able to deliver exactly what is needed.

“We have a lot of experience in these big games, so we can rest easy,” Varane told UEFA’s official website.”We’re just as decisive as before, winning is always our aim and it’s in this club’s DNA. We always come into this games with a hunger to win and with determination. We’ll prepare for it and do everything we can, just like we always do in this competition.”

The French defender has hailed Zinedine Zidane for his work at Madrid. “Zidane transmits confidence and calmness,” the defender added. “It’s important because it means he supports me and gives me advice. He pushed me to take risks and to play higher to help the team play a more offensive style.”
