Martin Odegaard is reluctant to return to Real Madrid this summer. The Norwegian’s loan has officially finished on July 20 and Real is expecting the midfielder to return to preseason training. The 21-year-old would rather stay at Sociedad for a second season as he is fearing that he will be benched at the Santiago Bernabeu, reports Sport.
Odegaard has been of of the best players for Real Sociedad in LaLiga last season. The youngster is considered a first team player and could be playing every single game for the Basques next season. One problem is Odegaard’s knee injury which kept him from playing after the lockdown had been lifted.
There is an option for Odegaard to go under the knife, but that could mean he would not be able to extend his loan at Sociedad, meaning he will be staying at Real Madrid next season. With the presence of Casemiro, Luka Modric, Toni Kroos, Federico Valverde, Isco, Brahim Diaz and Marco Asensio chances of playing regularly are slim.
