Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has revealed that he could have signed Real Madrid forward Luka Jovic this summer ahead of Victor Osimhen. The Nigerian international completed a €50m move towards the San Paolo from OSC Lille last week as a long-term replacement for Polish striker Arek Milik.
Prior to agreeing a deal for Osimhen, Laurentiis confirmed that Jovic was on their shortlist. “We met with Ramadani (Jovic’s agent) and we could have reached a deal for him, or Zenit’s Sardar Azmoun,” he told an interview with Corriere dello Sport. “However, as the option for Osimhen became more concrete, we went for him.”
Now that a potential move has collapsed for Jovic it will be interesting to see what the future holds for the young Serbian. He has had a disappointing first season at Real Madrid following a big money move from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer. It is believed Jovic is being tracked by AC Milan, while there are also clubs from Germany and England interested.
