Ilkay Gundogan is a bit jealous of Chelsea completing the signing of Timo Werner. The German winger completed a €65m transfer from RB Leipzig in July and will be starring for Chelsea in the Premier League next season. Gundogan admits that he and his Manchester City teammates are wary of Chelsea’s threat next season.
“Believe me: Everyone at City knows about Timo Werner. Many of my team-mates asked what kind of guy he is. He deserves respect,” the City midfielder told SportBild. And City’s fears for Chelsea could become even worse if the Blues manage to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen this month. Negotiations for a transfer have already started and have been reportedly progressing well.
Gundogan is in awe of Havertz: “In my opinion, Havertz is even better than Ballack in terms of his playing ability. Ballack had a certain level of aggression in his game, and a strong mentality. He was a top player of the previous generation – a bastard on the pitch, in a positive sense. Kai isn’t like that.”
