Neymar: ‘This is the closest we have been to winning the Champions League’

Brazilian star Neymar says his Paris Saint-Germain need to be considered as one of the leading candidates to claim the Champions League this season. The French giants have already secured a spot in the quarter finals as they face Italian side Atalanta Bergamo. If they manage to beat the Italians, they will face the winner of Atletico Madrid and RB Leipzig.

With the change of the rules for the 2020 Champions League, PSG will need two wins to reach their first ever final. Neymar is aware of the prospect of playing his first major final for PSG this summer. “We want to mark this season with the Champions. We will fight for this because we were never so close.”

Also, for the first time in his three seasons with PSG Neymar has stayed fit during the entire season. In his first two seasons the forward suffered a foot injury in the early months of the year, which kept him from playing for his club during the decisive moments of the season.

“These three years came with a lot of knowledge. I’ve lived times of joy and some complicated ones, especially when I was unable to play due to injuries,” said Neymar on his official website. “With my teammates’ help, I was able to overcome and focus on what really matters for everyone, which is our performance in the field translated into titles.”

“Our supporters, the club, and every fan can see our team’s delivery in any game. I believe that today I live my best moment in Paris. We form a family on behalf of the greater objective we have ahead of us.” Neymar has made 24 appearances for PSG this season and the forward has scored 19 goals and provided 10 assists.
