Arda Turan returns to boyhood club: ‘Emotions are very deep’

Former FC Barcelona midfielder Arda Turan has returned to his boyhood club Galatasaray. The 33-year-old left the Spanish giants on a free transfer earlier this month after he already spent 18 months on loan at Turkish champions Istanbul Basaksehir. Turan came through the academy at Galatasaray and made his debut for the club in 2005.

He developed into one of the club’s leading players and earned himself a transfer to Spanish giants Atletico Madrid in 2011. In the Spanish capital Turan established himself as a world-class player before he was picked up by Barcelona in 2015. While he never impressed for Barcelona, he did win the LaLiga and two Copa del Rey’s while at Barcelona.

On Wednesday Turan and Galatasaray confirmed the transfer. “Emotions are very deep,” Turan said. “Now is not the time to comment and talk too much. It’s time for me to get on the field and fight. I would like to thank Mr. Mustafa Cengiz and members of the board of directors. I hope everything will be good: the most beautiful days, successful days again both in Turkey and in Europe.”
