Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has confirmed that Eric Garcia is set to leave the club this summer as the defender has rejected to extend his contract beyond 2021. The 19-year-old defender is looking to return to his boyhood club Barcelona as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique.
“He announced to us that he doesn’t want to extend his contract with Manchester City,” Guardiola told a press conference. “He has one more year and after that, he doesn’t want to extend. We want it but he doesn’t want to extend it so I imagine he wants to play in other places.”
It is expected that the central defender will be rejoining his former club FC Barcelona. The youngster left the Blaugrana in 2017 after spending years in Barcelona’s youth academy. Garcia became a first team regular for City in recent months and featured in almost all of City’s Premier League games. Despite his chances in the first team it seems that Garcia wants to return to his homeland.
