German side Hertha Berlin have completed the signing of Deyovaisio Zeefuik from FC Groningen. The 22-year-old defender passed a medical on Thursday without any problems and he will now sign a five-year contract with the Bundesliga side. Hertha, who have beaten Southampton to sign Zeefuik will pay around €4m.
Zeefuik, who is a Dutch youth international and former Ajax academy player, had one year left at the Eredivisie club and already told the club he was adamant in making a move. Reports claim that PSV, Stade Reims and Southampton were also interested in signing Zeefuik, who decided to accept the offer of Hertha.
Zeefuik is the second signing for the ambitious German side for the 2020/2021 season after goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow, who transferred from SC Freiburg for eight million euros. The young defender will not be the first Dutchman in the Hertha squad as he will be welcomed by Karim Rekik, Omar Rekik, Javairô Dilrosun and Daishawn Redan.
