Zidane: ‘Bale does not want to play against Manchester City’

Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane has revealed that Gareth Bale has decided not to play against Manchester City in the Champions League on Friday. The Welshman has been left out of the squad of the Spanish giants for the clash in the second leg of the round of 16 and Zidane has now revealed this has been Bale’s own choice.

“[Bale] is a Real Madrid player, nothing has changed and I respect that,” Zidane said during the pre-match press conference. “In the end many things are said and we have a respectful relationship between coach and player. It is a private conversation, but I can only tell you that he preferred not to play, and the rest is between him and me.”

There has been many speculation on Bale’s future at Real Madrid. The winger has been frozen out by Zidane at the club, playing only 12 minutes since the lockdown in Spain was lifted. In the final league games of the LaLiga season Bale was caught in the stands goofing around with his teammates and after Madrid won the title he did not participate in the celebrations.
