Andrea Pirlo has been named as the new Juventus manager after the sacking of Maurizio Sarri earlier today. The news comes as a shock as earlier names as Pochettino, Simone Inzaghi, Luciano Spalletti and Gian Piero Gasperini were being mentioned as possible new manager ánd Pirlo was named as the new manager for Juventus’ U23 team, playing in the Serie C, a few days earlier.
After 13 seasons of playing in Milan for both A.C. Milan and Internazionale, the Italian midfielder joined Juventus in 2011 as a player. Appearing in 119 games, scoring 16 goals, before joining New York City FC in the Major League Soccer and calling it quits at the end of 2017.
The owner of La Vecchia Signora, Andrea Agnelli, sees comparisons with Zinedine Zidane, whom was appointed with no managerial experience aswell and eventually went on to win three consecutive Champions League titles with Real Madrid. Pirlo has signed a two year contract.
