Barcelona break their own Champions League record after Napoli win

FC Barcelona managed to reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League on Saturday after beating Napoli at the Nou Camp 3-1 and 4-2 on aggregate. With the win Barcelona have now reached the quarter-finals of the European tournament for the 13th time in a row which is a new record.

The last time the Spanish giants were knocked out of the tournament before the quarter-finals was back in 2006/2007. In that season the Blaugranas were knocked out by Liverpool, who eliminated the team coached by Frank Rijkaard. In every single season that would follow, Barcelona would reach the quarter finals of the Champions League.

And Barcelona stand alone in this record as no other club has ever managed to put together a run of more than eight seasons in a row. Looking towards the semi-finals Barcelona have not reached that stage of the tournament on four occasions. In 2014 and 2016 they were knocked out by Atletico Madrid, in 2017 they lost to Juventus and a year later they lost to AS Roma.
