Edinson Cavani’s move to Benfica back on after huge contract offer

Edinson Cavani’s proposed move to Benfica is back on track after it appeared he rejected an offer made by the Portuguese giants. A Bola reports that Benfica have met with Cavani and his agent last week, offering him a stunning two-year contract worth around €9m-per-season. Cavani could complete his move to Benfica next week.

The Urugayan striker left Paris Saint-Germain last month on a free transfer after his contract had expired. The French giants wanted Cavani to sign a short-term deal to finish the season and play for the club in the Champions League in August but Cavani decided to take his chances as a free agent instead.

Since leaving PSG Cavani has been linked with several clubs, including Atletico Madrid, Juventus and Leeds United. However, it now seems that Benfica are close to signing a deal with Cavani despite earlier reports that the veteran striker rejected an offer from the Portuguese club. A new offer from them has changed Cavani’s thoughts about joining the Liga Nos side.
