Barcelona promises ‘key role’ to Manchester City winger

FC Barcelona have been linked in recent weeks with a move for Manchester City defender Eric Garcia. It now seems that the Spanish giants are interested in another player from the Citizens: Bernardo Silva. The Telegraph reports that Barcelona are very keen on adding the winger to their squad and that they are currently preparing an offer.

The Portuguese winger was one of City’s key players in their title winning seasons and was even selected as their Player of the Year in 2019. However, this season he has not showed off his greatest form, only making 23 starts for City over the entire season. Barcelona are keen on using the situation to persuade Silva to join them this summer.

It will take Barcelona a massive offer to convince City to even consider selling the winger as he has a contract until the summer of 2025. Also, with the departure of David Silva it seems unlikely that Pep Guardiola wants to say his farewells to another attacking midfielder this summer. The report does claim that Barcelona are exploring the options to convince City to sell.

Due to the effects of the coronavirus pandemic Barcelona are not able to pay a high transfer fee. One of the options they are considering is a player plus cash deal. In that case Nelson Semedo would be added into the deal to lower the askin price of Bernardo Silva. City have been linked with the right fullback multiple times over the past few seasons and could be interested to add Semedo into such a deal.
