Liverpool have completed the signing of Greek left fullback Konstantinos Tsimikas from Olympiakos. The 24-year-old defender has joined the Reds on a four-year contract in a deal that is worth around €13m. With Tsimikas Jurgen Klopp has finally found his long-wanted back-up for Andy Robertson.
“I’m very happy, I’m very proud to be here,” Tsimikas told the club’s official website. “For me, it’s the biggest club in the world. It’s an honour to be here and I will give my best.” Tsimikas will be joining up with his new teammates at Liverpool next week as the Reds will start their preparation for next season.
Reports claim that the Greek international was not Liverpool first choice as the club pursued Norwich City’s Jamal Lewis. However, the relegated Canaries demanded at least €20m for the young English defender and that made Liverpool switch their interest to Tsimikas, who has been on the club’s scouting list for over a year.
