Marc-Andre Ter Stegen is not on the same level as Manuel Neuer, says Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge. The two teams will meet in the quarter-final of the Champions League this week and the German director enjoyed having a dig at Barcelona’s first team goalkeeper.
Ter Stegen has established himself as one of the best goalkeepers in the world since joining Barcelona but Rummenigge feels he still has some steps to make. “Germany is fortunate to have this pair of goalkeepers, although Neuer is truly world-class and Ter Stegen is still on his way to that level.”
34-year-old Neuer is still considered to be Germany’s number one goalkeeper and this has led to some difficulties in the past between Ter Stegen en Neuer. In July Neuer told Marca he felt he was still better than Ter Stegen, saying: “I don’t have any doubts I’m the best, even if I’m not 17 anymore.”
