Leroy Sane completed a return to the German Bundesliga this summer. The winger ended a four-year spell with Manchester City to join Bayern Munich in a deal worth around €45m. The new signing has now admitted he is still recovering from his heavy knee injury he suffered at the start of last season and he hopes to reach full fitness soon, despite earning a call-up from the German national team.
Sane spoke with DFB.tv and he looked back at a busy year. “First the cruciate ligament rupture, then the corona situation and, in the end, the move to Bayern Munich. It was a tough year, but a very, very good one to get to know me better personally ”. Suffering the injury in the early months of the season, Sane only made one appearance for City in the 2019-20 season.
He then completed a move to Bayern while Man City was still finishing the season. He has been working on his recovery and fitness at Bayern but admits he still needs to improve. “I think I’m at 80 percent. Clearly the games and the rhythm are missing, the last percent will be added.” Sane is currently with the German national team as the side are preparing for their Nations League matches against Spain and Switzerland.
