Sergio Ramos believes Lionel Messi has brought FC Barcelona enough during his career to be able to decide his own future. The Argentinian forward is currently trying to leave the Catalan giants but the club are blocking a potential move away. Messi’s father Jorge is currently in Barcelona and has spoken with president Josep Maria Bartomeu. The first signals aren’t too positive as Messi still wants to leave the club and Barcelona rejecting the transfer wishes of their star forward.
The captain of Real Madrid was asked about the captain of his biggest rival while he is at international duty with Spain to play in the Nations League. “It’s something that we’re not focused on but the player has earned the right to be able to decide on his future. Having said that, for the Spanish game and for Barca and for the rest of us, we’d like him to stay as we always want the best around.”
Messi’s father and Bartomeu are set to have a second meeting on Thursday as both sides hope to negotiate a deal that works for both parties. However, with Messi wanting to leave the club and Barcelona hoping to convince the forward to sign a new deal it seems very unlikely that there will be an agreement. It will be interesting to see what will happen in the near future if both sides do not find a suitable solution.
