Officials of FC Barcelona are looking to re-initiate talks with Internazionale striker Lautaro Martinez as a move for the Argentinian could be back on. Barcelona have been heavily linked with the forward for the past few months, but president Josep Maria Bartomeu eventually confirmed that Barcelona would not be pursuing Martinez as the club lacked the finances to complete a deal.
But a report from Spanish outlet Sport now claims that Barcelona are ready to speak with Martinez and his representatives once again to push through a deal. The Spanish club has already offloaded Ivan Rakitic and are currently working on outgoing transfers for Arturo Vidal and Luis Suarez. These transfers would create the needed space in Barcelona’s budgets to sign Martinez.
The Argentinian had a €111m release clause that expired in July but Barcelona are confident they will be able to complete a deal in the €80m area. They could even offer Vidal as part of the transfer as the Chilean has been in talks with Inter over the past few weeks. In the meantime Barcelona are working on a €25m deal for Olympique Lyon ace Memphis Depay.
