Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have both been tested positive on the coronavirus. Manchester City confirms on Monday that the two players have been withdrawn from team training and they have been moved into self-isolation. City also confirm that the two are feeling ok and are not displaying any symptoms of the virus.
A statement on City’s website read: “Manchester City FC can confirm that Riyad Mahrez and Aymeric Laporte have tested positive for Covid-19. Both players are currently observing a period of self-isolation in accordance with Premier League and UK Government protocol on quarantine. Neither is displaying symptoms of the virus. Everyone at the Club wishes Riyad and Aymeric a speedy recovery ahead of their return to training and the new season.”
The absence of the duo is a blow to Manchester City head coach Pep Guardiola as the Spaniard and his team are preparing for the club’s first game of the Premier League season. Man City kick off their 2020-21 Premier League season on September 21 against Wolverhampton Wanderers after they were given an extended offseason break due to their participation in the Champions League tournament in August.
