Fulham have completed the signing of Olympique Lyon defender Kenny Tete. The Dutch defender has signed a four-year deal with the London club with the option of adding a fifth year. Fulham did not make any comments on the transfer fee but reports from France have claimed that Lyon have received €3.2m for Tete and the right of 10 per cent of a future transfer fee.
“It is a great feeling. I feel blessed to be here,” the 24-year-old said to FFCtv. “I cannot wait to start my new journey and meet my new teammates. I heard of Fulham’s interest and I was bowled over. I spoke with people around me and knew quickly I wanted to leave Lyon and join Fulham. The team is back in the Premier League now and I will give 100 percent to keep us there.”
Club owner Tony Khan is happy to have landed an experienced Dutch international: “I’m excited to announce the permanent transfer of Kenny Tete to Fulham Football Club. With the addition of Kenny, we’ve strengthened our squad to compete in the Premier League. He’s a young player with great experience, and I’m thrilled that he’s joining us on a long contract. I’m confident that with his talent and his desire to win, he’ll be a great asset for us now and in future seasons. Come on Fulham!”
Tete is a product of the famous youth academy at Ajax, making his debut in the 2014-15 season. He would make 55 appearances for the club before joining Olympique Lyon on a full transfer. In France he would play a total of 82 games for Lyon. He is also a Dutch international, earning 13 caps for the senior team.
