Mikel Arteta says Arsenal fans will be able to relax about Pierre-Emile Aubameyang’s contract situation at Arsenal. The Gabon striker still has not signed a new deal with the Gunners and there are less than four weeks left in the current transfer window. However, Arteta is confident his club will be able to secure a signature from Aubameyang under a new long-term contract.
“I can say I am even more confident that I was at the end of last season,” said the Arsenal manager. “Do I think it will be done soon? I am really optimistic, yes.” On Thursday reporters emerged that Arsenal would be ready to make Aubameyang the highest paid player in the history of the club. Mesut Ozil currently is the highest earner at the Emirates, earning €379.000-a-week.
Arteta also had good news for fans of Alexandre Lacazette. The French forward has held talks with the club and is also set for a longer stay in London. He is really happy here,” said Arteta. “He wants to keep improving and contributing to the team. I know how good he is and the impact he’s having. He needs to demand himself to be the best striker at this football club, the same as the rest. He was very happy to hear that.”
