Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has praised Leeds United for their performance in their 4-3 loss at Anfield. The Premier League champions needed an 88th minute goal from Mohamed Salah to secure the win and Van Dijk admitted after the game that newly promoted Leeds is a team that could be causing a lot of problems for teams this season.
He said, “I enjoyed the win for sure. We knew it was going to be very intense and we knew it was going to be tough. It’s early on in the season and there are many things we can improve. We will work on it. It’s totally what we expected from Leeds. At times we could have done better but the most important thing is the three points. Leeds are going to cause a lot of teams problems because of the way they play. Credit to them.”
Van Dijk’s comments were later on repeated by Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp: “How difficult the season will be, we knew before the game. If it is a good example for the season, this specific game, I don’t know, because Leeds are special. I said it before the game and in the game everybody saw it obviously. We are not like this because we respect them a lot and I knew they would cause us problems.”
