The Champions League is set to return to the main stage for yet another season. Thanks to the coronavirus pandemic the final stages of the 2019-20 season were played in a mini-tournament in Portugal. Bayern Munich won the final by beating Paris Saint-Germain 1-0 in the final. The Germans are ready to defend their title but not before the qualifying rounds are completed. This week the third qualifying round will be completed.
Due to the coronavirus the matches in the third qualifying round will be played over a single leg. The next round – the playoffs – will then see the return of the two-legged matches. In the third round several big clubs will already be entering the stage, including Portuguese giants Benfica and Ukrainian powerhouse Dynamo Kiev.
The teams that win the third qualifying rounds this week will be entering the final stage before the group stages. For the final stage four teams have already qualified. These are Slavia Praha (CZE), Red Bull Salzburg (AUT), Kuban Krasnodar (RUS) and Olympiacos (GRE). The clubs will be awaiting the results on Tuesday and Wednesday to find out who they will be facing in the final round before the group stages will start in October.
