Memphis Depay will not start for Olympique Lyon in Tuesday when Lea Gones take on Montpellier in the Ligue 1. The Dutch forward has traveled with the team to the south of France but he will start the game on the bench. In France it has been suggested that Depay will not start as his transfer to FC Barcelona is edging closer.
Depay is Lyon’s captain but will be replaced by Tino Kadewere against Montpellier. The transfer of Depay has been filling headlines for the past two weeks. The Dutch striker has emerged as the club’s major target as they are looking to rejuvenate the team. Depay will be replacing Luis Suarez, who has been told he has no future with the club.
On Tuesday it was reported that Barcelona and Lyon agreed on a €30m transfer but later on it was suggested that the Spanish LaLiga blocked the transfer due to the club’s financial status. Barcelona will first have to sell players before they will be able to sign new players and that could be a major problem for the Catalans. At this point only Suarez and Arturo Vidal are looking to leave and it seems unlikely that these players will earn Barcelona enough funds to finance the move of Depay.
