The proposed transfer of Memphis Depay from Olympique Lyon to FC Barcelona seems to be off the table. The Spanish club is still interested in signing the Lyon skipper but are not able to generate the required funds to complete the transfer. Meanwhile, Lyon director Juninho has admitted that Barcelona have not even informed about the transfer terms for Depay.
Barcelona boss Ronald Koeman admitted earlier that he was keen on bringing Depay to the Nou Camp this transfer window. The Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf then added fuel to the rumours by stating that Lyon and Barcelona had reached an agreement on a deal potentially worth €32m. Later on Tuesday Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas rejected those rumours by stating that there has not been an offer for Depay.
And now a day later Juninho confirmed the comments of his president by telling Telefoot: “We have not heard or received anything from Barcelona. They didn’t even call to inquire about Memphis’ asking price. I understand that if he stays with us, he will be more than happy to help us have a good season. The players who have been bid on have already left.”
