FC Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has insisted that he and Lionel Messi have a good relationship despite the transfer saga that filled the headlines throughout the final weeks of August. Messi submitted a transfer request with the club and finally decided to back down on his transfer wish as he did not want to leave the club using a lawsuit. He returned to the team last week and Koeman is happy to see the Argentinian back at the club.
Koeman has been talking with Messi ever since he decided to stay with Barcelona for the 2020-21 campaign and insists that there is no bad blood between them. “That has passed me reasonably well,” the former Netherlands national team coach told Fox Sports. “That was mainly a conflict between Messi and the club. I have spoken to Messi since then and we will continue as usual.”
While Barcelona have been linked with a massive rebuild this summer, Koeman admits that it seems likely that the Spanish club will start the season with the players they have at the moment. “We are now working towards the new season and I assume that we are going to do it with this group with which we are the preparation,” Koeman added.
