Bayern Munich chief Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed that Thiago Alcantara will be completing a move to Liverpool on Friday. The Reds will pay a €30m fee for the 29-year-old Spaniard as he will announced as a new signing on Friday. Speaking to BILD, Rummenigge not only confirmed Liverpool will sign Thiago but also that the midfielder’s wish was to join the Reds.
“I can confirm FC Bayern have finally reached an agreement with Liverpool”, Rummenigge said. “It was Thiago’s great wish to do something new at the end of his career.” Earlier on there were rumours that Thiago also received offers from Manchester United and his former club FC Barcelona. Rummenigge denied those rumours and confirmed that only Liverpool made an approach.
On Friday Thiago confirmed his departure from Bayern with an emotional video. The midfielder has spent seven years at Bayern, winning the Bundesliga in every season he has played for the club. In total he has played 235 games for the club, scoring 31 goals and providing 37 assists. He leaves the club with seven Bundesliga’s, four DFB Pokals and one Champions League.
