Bayern Munich have discussed the idea of bringing Mario Gotze back to the club after the midfielder left Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer. The World Cup winner wasn’t offered a new contract at Dortmund last season and has been looking for a new club ever since the season in the Bundesliga ended in July. Bayern boss Hansi Flick has thought about Gotze as a replacement for Thiago Alcantara.
The 29-year-old Spanish midfielder is set to join Liverpool in a €30m move and he has left a gap in Bayern’s squad. A report from Bild claims that Flick has spoken with the Bayern board about the possibility of resigning Gotze as a free agent. The 28-year-old would not be signed as a leading player but would increase Flick’s options on the midfield.
However, the report from Bild also states that there has not been an offer for Gotze and that it is not expected that the Champions League champions will be offering a deal to their former player. In the meantime Gotze is still looking for a new club. Earlier Gotze told the German newspaper that he wants to join a club that plays in the Champions League and is not looking for a move to the Major League Soccer.
