Pep Guardiola is happy to see one of his former players joining the Premier League. Thiago Alcantara completed his transfer to Liverpool on Friday in a €30m deal from Bayern Munich. Ahead of Manchester City‘s first league game of the season Guardiola was asked about the transfer and was also asked why City did not make a move for the Spaniard.
“We have in this position enough players and normally we have to move the players when we need someone in that position. We have enough players in this position”, said Guardiola, who is happy to see Thiago in the Premier League. “I’m happy to see him in England, England is going to enjoy a really good player,” he added.
One of the players Guardiola is referring to is Phil Foden. The young midfielder has a massive potential but was were banished from England’s squad, having broken coronavirus protocols by entertaining women at the team hotel. “In the time I saw him, these three or four days we were together, he’s well” Guardiola said. “He knows he made a mistake and that’s all.”
