Arsenal have not yet started talks with Alexandre Lacazette on a potential new contract. The 29-year-old still has two seasons left on his current contract and Mikel Arteta has admitted that the club has not started negotiations. The French forward has been linked with a move away from Arsenal this summer with Juventus and Atletico Madrid being put forward as interested clubs. Arteta says he is happy with Lacazette but also insists that Arsena’s priorities are on the transfer market at the moment.
“At the moment, we haven’t started any negotiations,” Arteta said. “We have a lot of things still to do in this market and at the moment we are focusing on those things. He’s a player I’m really happy with. I think we’ve shown him a lot of faith since I arrived here. But we cannot start any speculation. We know that any player who is under two years of their contract is always going to be talked about.”
Last week Lacazette helped Arsenal to secure a 3-0 win over Fulham and after the game the forward told the official Gunners website that he isn’t working on a move away from the club. “I am really happy. It’s only the press that says I’m not happy,” he then told the club’s website. Since joining Arsenal Lacazette has played 129 games for the club and he has scored 50 goals.
