Thiago Alcantara made his Premier League debut for Liverpool on Sunday. The Spanish midfielder completed his €30m transfer from Bayern Munich on Friday and was granted his first minutes as a Liverpudlian on Sunday against Chelsea. The 29-year-old did not take long to make a solid impression for the Reds as he helped his new team secure a 2-0 win and breaking a Premier League record.
Thiago entered the picht in the second half as a replacement for the injured Jordan Henderson. Despite only playing 45 minutes of play he made 75 successful passes, more than any other Chelsea player in the entire game. Also, it has been the most successful deliveries in the Premier League since statistics agency Opta has been collecting data on the English leagues.
The new Liverpool man did not need a lot of time to make a good impression. After the game he was praised by the English media and his coach Jurgen Klopp. However, it wasn’t all praise as Thiago conceded a penalty in the second half after he brought down Timo Werner in his own box. The penalty that followed was missed by Jorginho as Liverpool managed to keep their first clean sheet of the season.
