Hansi Flick has ended the rumours that Bayern Munich were interested in re-signing Mario Gotze. The German midfielder is a free agent after he left Borussia Dortmund and the Bayern boss has a good relationship with the 2014 World Cup winner. However, Flick insists that Gotze is not an option for Bayern Munich at the moment.
“I have had frequent contact with him since my time with the national team,” Flick said ahead of Bayern’s Super Cup clash with Sevilla. “I have high regard for Mario and know where his strengths lie. But that’s not an option for us at the moment.” Gotze left Dortmund in July and he has been looking for a new club since that moment. Fiorentina and a club from the Major League Soccer have been linked with Gotze.
Manuel Neuer joined Flick during the press conference on Wednesday and the German international left the door open for a possible return. “Mario is a very good player, who knows the environment. He said himself that he absolutely wants to win the Champions League. He’s very ambitious, and I know him as a player, who is always in good shape. We’ll see where he lands. It’s up to the bosses to decide whether he is a topic for us. But I’m confident he would be able to do well at Bayern.”
