Liverpool have confirmed that Thiago Alcantara has tested positive on the coronavirus. The Spanish midfielder was ruled out of Liverpool’s game with Arsenal on Monday (3-1 win) and Jurgen Klopp refused to comment on the nature of his injury around the game. The only thing the German stated that Thiago would be ‘fit again’ after the international period next week.
It has now been confirmed that Thiago has tested positive on the coronavirus during the mandatory medical tests ahead of every Premier League game. “Liverpool midfielder Thiago Alcantara has tested positive for COVID-19 and is currently self-isolating according to the necessary guidelines. The 29-year-old, who missed Monday’s match against Arsenal, has exhibited minor symptoms of the virus but is in good health and is getting better”, Liverpool wrote in an official statement.
The confirmation that Thiago has been tested positive on the virus is a blow to Liverpool. The Reds signed the Spanish midfielder two weeks ago from Bayern Munich and the midfielder made an instant impact as he broke the Premier League record for most successful passes in 45 minutes of football in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Chelsea.
