Manchester United have opened talks with Chelsea over a possible transfer for N’Golo Kante. The French midfielder will be allowed to leave the Blues as the clubs needs to generate some income following their summer spending spree which is nearing €300m. A report by Mirror claims that the two parties have started the talks for the midfielder.
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen on adding the defensive minded midfielder to his side and has requested his club to make a move. Kante, who has a contract until the summer of 2023, will be allowed to leave Chelsea for a fee in the region of €60m. United, who signed Donny van de Beek from Ajax earlier this transfer window are open to match Chelsea’s asking price.
However, Kante will have to accept a wage cut if he wants to join United this transfer window. The France international is one of Chelsea’s highest earners with a contract worth €7.5m-per-season. United aren’t willing to match those terms and will offer the 29-year-old Kante a yearly wage of around €6m-a-year.
