Ajax have completed the signing of Sean Klaiber from FC Utrecht. The 25-year-old right-back has signed a three-year contract with the club and he will join his new teammates with an immediate effect. Klaiber will replace Sergino Dest in the Ajax squad as the American defender is close on completing his transfer to Barcelona. Dest is currently in Barcelona to finalise the deal.
Klaiber developed through the youth academy of Utrecht and he has become the most expensive outgoing transfer in the club’s history. He played 153 games for the Eredivisie club, which is the only club he has served at the highest level in Dutch football. At Ajax Klaiber will be facing competition from Noussair Mazraoui. The Moroccan international is currently considered as Ajax’s first choice right-back.
“It is a weird feeling”, the new Ajax signing told on the website of his former club. “It is like you are moving in with your new girlfriend while you have always lived with your parents. You never know if you will miss your parents or anything else. I have been with this club for thirteen years and I have enjoyed every moment that I had with this club.”
