Bayern Munich and Ajax can possibly relax after Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has given a transfer update involving Oleksandr Zinchenko. The Ukrainian international has been linked with a move away from City and it was suggested that the English club would be preparing possible moves for Bayern defender David Alaba and Ajax left-back Nicolas Tagliafico. Guardiola has now hinted that Zinchenko will be staying at City as he has suffered an injury that could last for weeks.
“Oleksandr suffered a new injury a couple of days ago”, Guardiola told a news conference after City trashed Burnley in the Carabao Cup (0-3). “He recently returned to team training from another injury, but we now expect him to be out for at least two to three weeks.” The Spanish manager now expects Zinchenko to stay on with City after the transfer window ends next week: “Yes, I think so”, Guardiola added.
With Zinchenko staying at the Etihad Stadium, Guardiola has ruled out a move for a new left-back. The Citizens had interest in signing Alaba, who has still not signed a new contract at Bayern. The Austrian and the club are still in talks with reports from Germany claiming that a deal is still far off at the moment. Tagliafico was the number two on the list. The Argentinian international has two years left on his contract at Ajax and he would have cost City around €25m.
