Robert Lewandowski will be crowned as the UEFA Player of the Year on Thursday, reports BILD. The UEFA will complete the draw for the Champions League later on the day and during the event they will also hand out several awards, including the Player of the Year. The German outlet is sure that the award for best player will go to Bayern Munich forward Lewandowski and not his teammate Manuel Neuer or Manchester City star Kevin de Bruyne.
Last year the award was won by Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk. The Dutch international has not been included on the shortlist for this year’s award and will not be able to win it for a second time. It is also the first time in ten years that either Cristiano Ronaldo or Lionel Messi is part of the final three contenders. The Juventus and FC Barcelona forward did not make it into the top three.
All eyes will be at Lewandowski on Thursday after the Polish forward enjoyed the best season of his career. In the Bundesliga he scored 34 goals in 31 games and he was also crowned as the top goal scorer of the Champions League (15) and the DFB Pokal (6). With his goals he helped Bayern complete the treble by winning the Bundesliga, Champions League and DFB Pokal.
